Fully hand-forged in Japan and custom assembled by our team here at Kakushin, this Yorokobi SP Kiritsuke is a true collector’s piece. For this build, we paired the blade with a truly one-of-a-kind custom handle featuring red chili peppers infused in translucide epoxy at the front, set against a warm olive wood base. The result is bold, distinctive, and impossible to overlook — a handle that brings personality and originality while still feeling refined in hand.
At its core is premium SLD semi-stainless steel. It sits right between carbon and stainless in feel, offering exceptional edge retention, impressive toughness, and far easier maintenance than most high-hardness carbon steels. It’s a steel that performs at a very high level without demanding constant attention.
What truly sets this blade apart is the execution of its finish. The primary bevel features a finely blasted migaki finish that contrasts beautifully with the dark kurouchi upper section. As the finishes transition, intricate Damascus layers emerge along the top of the bevel, creating a striking visual effect that immediately draws attention.
The spine is equally impressive. Exposed Damascus extends toward the tip, revealing the layered construction in a way that is rarely seen — and even more rarely executed with this level of precision. It showcases the craftsmanship behind the blade while adding another distinctive visual element that collectors will appreciate.
The Kiritsuke profile ties everything together. Long, purposeful, and exceptionally versatile, it offers outstanding push-cutting performance, while its aggressive K-tip excels at precision work. For precision information, it’s listed by Nigara as a 240 mm, but the blade’s pronounced curvature gives it an effective cutting edge that measures closer to 230 mm from heel to tip along the edge without following the curve.
To complete this one-of-a-kind piece, we assembled the blade in our workshop onto its custom handle, carefully chosen to complement its character while giving it a personality all its own. The vivid red chili pepper infusion in epoxy creates a striking focal point at the front of the handle, while the olive wood base adds warmth, balance, and a natural contrast that works beautifully with the blade’s dark kurouchi finish and exposed Damascus details.
From its premium SLD steel and exposed Damascus spine to its custom Kakushin-assembled handle, this Yorokobi SP is more than a high-end Japanese knife — it’s a one-of-a-kind expression of Japanese craftsmanship brought to life through our own vision.
