This exceptional kiritsuke yanagiba date 2023 was forged using Shirogami #1 steel and features a rare mizu-honyaki quench. Forged by the renowned Kenji Togashi, it showcases an exquisite mirror finish with a dramatic fujinami hamon—symbolizing Mt. Fuji—with a full moon etched into the hira and a delicate crescent on the ura. The final edge was expertly refined by Nori Igarashi of Yamawaki Hamono, one of the most respected sharpeners in Sakai.
Togashi-san began his blacksmithing journey back in 1967, rising to become one of Sakai City's most respected traditional bladesmiths. His decades of dedication were recognized in 1996, when Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry named him a Dentoukougeishi (Traditional Craftsman). A decade later, in 2007, he was further honoured by Sakai City with the “Master of Traditional Crafts” award, celebrating his superior heat-treatment techniques and remarkable skill in crafting Japanese kitchen knives.
