The Nigara Hamono STRIX series is crafted in Japan using blade-oriented powdered steel — a high-end stainless steel known for its fine carbides and ability to take an exceptionally sharp, refined edge. Hardened to around 64 HRC, STRIX knives are celebrated for their crisp feel on the board, excellent edge retention, and thoughtfully executed geometry that balances performance with control.
What makes this particular piece special is how it’s completed here at the shop. We’ve taken this STRIX blade and paired it in-house with a rare, stabilized Amboyna wood handle, finished with a custom epoxy ferrule. Amboyna is prized for its dramatic burl figure and deep natural contrast, and once stabilized, it offers outstanding durability while preserving its striking visual depth. The epoxy ferrule adds a modern touch that complements the steel without overpowering it.
This pairing transforms the knife into a true one-of-one — no duplicates, no repeats. The handle’s weight and balance were carefully selected to match the blade, resulting in a knife that feels lively yet planted in hand, refined but purposeful.

Canadian orders can say goodbye to unexpected duties, additional customs fees and exchange rate fluctuations; all our prices are clear and upfront.
