This particular 1-of-1 piece was assembled at Kakushin using a custom Wenge wood handle, selected for its rich dark tones, durability, and timeless appearance. As a final artistic touch, the translucent epoxy tip contains a curled snake suspended within the resin, creating a striking visual detail that transforms the knife into a true conversation piece. The blade is also traditionally hand engraved with the Kakushin Kanji, adding another layer of individuality and ensuring that no two knives ever feel completely alike.
The Kagami Nakiri is handcrafted in Tosa, Japan, and showcases a refined Migaki polish paired with a beautifully textured Tsuchime Damascus finish. The polished surfaces catch the light with remarkable elegance, while the hammered Damascus pattern adds depth, contrast, and handcrafted character. The result is a knife that feels premium and sophisticated without becoming overly decorative.
Forged from VG10 stainless steel and hardened to approximately 61 HRC, the Kagami series was designed as a high-performance everyday kitchen knife. The thin blade geometry delivers exceptional cutting efficiency, while the stainless construction provides excellent corrosion resistance and edge retention. In the Nakiri profile, these qualities truly shine, making vegetable preparation feel effortless thanks to the tall blade, flat edge profile, and outstanding food separation.
One of the first things that impressed us when we received the Kagami series was the overall level of fit and finish. Rounded spine edges, smoother choils, cleaner polish transitions, and superior attention to detail make these knives feel significantly more refined than many typical VG10 production models. After extensive testing at the shop, we found the Nakiri to be exceptionally comfortable, agile, and remarkably efficient on everything from onions and herbs to dense root vegetables. Combined with its unique custom handle and one-of-a-kind epoxy artwork, this knife stands as both a serious kitchen tool and a collectible piece of craftsmanship.
