Some custom builds are designed to stand out. Others feel as though the blade and handle were always meant to belong together.
This 240mm Kiritsuke began as a remarkable hand-forged Nigara Hamono blade and was transformed here at Kakushin into a true one-of-a-kind creation. The knife has been paired with a custom olive wood and epoxy handle featuring a translucent resin tip infused with a real red-capped mushroom, creating a piece that feels equally inspired by nature, craftsmanship, and artistry.
The handle immediately draws attention. Warm olive wood grain transitions naturally into crystal-clear resin, allowing the embedded mushroom to appear almost suspended in time. As light passes through the translucent tip, different details emerge from within the resin, creating depth and movement that constantly changes depending on angle and lighting. The result is striking, yet surprisingly elegant, flowing into the blade.
The blade itself carries all the hallmarks that have made Nigara Hamono one of Japan's most respected forging houses. Hand-forged in Aomori, Japan, it possesses the distinctive character and attention to detail that collectors and enthusiasts immediately recognize.
One of the first details you'll notice is the exposed forged spine. Rather than hiding the blade's construction, Nigara proudly leaves elements of the forging process visible, creating a look that feels authentic, purposeful, and deeply connected to traditional Japanese craftsmanship. It serves as a reminder that this is not a mass-produced knife, but the result of skilled hands and generations of experience.
The spine begins with substantial forged thickness near the heel before gradually tapering toward the tip, creating a balance that feels both powerful and responsive. That distal taper gives the knife a confident presence while maintaining the agility expected from a high-performance Kiritsuke. Whether tackling large ingredients, fine slicing work, or precision cuts, the blade feels controlled and remarkably refined in hand.
The finish further enhances the knife's character. A blasted Nashiji texture creates a soft, stone-like appearance across the blade, while the Damascus layers beneath introduce subtle movement and contrast. The effect is sophisticated rather than flashy, revealing more detail the longer you spend with it.
A genuine 1 of 1. Once sold, this exact knife will never exist again.
