By popular demand, we asked Nguyên in Hanoi to push the boundaries once again. Rather than revisiting a previous design, we took another leap—this time creating a Copper Damascus Bunka unlike anything else in the collection.
The result is a blade that blends the warm, unmistakable glow of forged copper Damascus with a hand-ground S-Grind geometry. Beyond its striking appearance, the S-Grind is highly functional: the blade transitions from thick to thin, then back to thick, creating subtle hollow sections that dramatically improve food release while maintaining excellent stiffness and cutting stability. It's a grind rarely seen in handmade production, requiring significantly more time and precision than a conventional flat grind.
At the core is 52100 high-carbon steel, chosen for its exceptional cutting performance. It takes an incredibly keen edge, offers outstanding edge retention, and sharpens with ease. Combined with the thin cutting edge and sophisticated S-Grind geometry, this Bunka glides effortlessly through vegetables, proteins, and herbs while reducing the tendency for food to cling to the blade.
Every knife is hand-forged and hand-finished by Nguyên in Hanoi as part of a small limited production. The Copper Damascus, hand-ground S-Grind, and final finish are all completed individually, meaning no two knives will ever look exactly alike. Variations in the Damascus flow, copper highlights, and hand-finishing are part of what makes each piece unique. The photos represent the collection, but the knife you receive will carry its own unmistakable character—a true expression of handmade craftsmanship.
