The Kaien Nakiri was added to the lineup by popular demand — for cooks who love that traditional Japanese vegetable-knife shape but want a bit more weight, height, and authority in hand. With its 170mm cutting edge and a proud 190mm spine line, it feels substantial, planted, and ready to move through piles of veggies without hesitation.
Made from 10Cr18MoV stainless steel, this Nakiri delivers dependable sharpness, impressive edge retention, and excellent corrosion resistance — all while keeping the price friendly. The Damascus cladding and dark kurouchi finish give the blade a rugged, forged personality that stands out without trying too hard.
Handmade in China but clearly inspired by Japanese aesthetics, the Kaien Nakiri aims to capture the spirit and look of classic Japanese blades while offering a tougher, slightly heavier build that appeals to everyday cooks.
Each handle follows the same theme, but every piece is handmade — meaning subtle differences in grain and tone make each knife one of a kind.
For daily kitchen work, it’s fantastic. But if you’re shopping for someone who’s deep into authentic Japanese forging traditions, this won’t replace the refinement of a true Japanese-made Nakiri.
For everyone else, the Kaien Nakiri is a reliable, great-looking workhorse — Japanese style with a bit of Western muscle behind it.
