This particular piece from the Kakushin × Noah Vachon × Jérémie Yelle Collection was sharpened, polished, etched, and assembled here at Kakushin’s Knife Shop as a true 1 of 1 custom configuration. While the collection begins with blade-only forged pieces, this knife was taken a step further and transformed into a fully finished custom build with a much darker, more dramatic presence.

Designed and forged in Québec, Canada, this collection reflects a meeting point between Japanese-inspired blade geometry and traditional Québec craftsmanship. The goal was never imitation, but rather interpretation — creating blades that carry the cutting performance, balance, and refined feel that Japanese kitchen knife enthusiasts appreciate, while remaining firmly rooted in local craftsmanship.

Forged from 26C3 high-carbon steel and heat treated to approximately 62 HRC, the blade delivers the kind of performance that has made this steel so respected among modern bladesmiths. It takes an exceptionally keen edge, sharpens with ease, and offers that crisp, lively cutting feel carbon steel users tend to appreciate immediately. A subtle hamon remains visible along the blade, revealing the differential hardening process, while a light tsuchime finish near the spine adds texture and character without disrupting the blade’s clean overall profile.

Each blade in the collection is forged with a beautifully distal tapered spine, allowing the thickness to decrease progressively toward the tip for improved agility, balance, and precision. The spine and choil are also carefully polished, giving the knife a smooth, refined feel in hand and reflecting the attention paid to comfort as much as performance.

For this specific build, we gave the blade a deep etched finish, creating a much darker and moodier appearance than the standard version. The result is a knife with striking visual weight — bold, dramatic, and unmistakably custom. The darker blade finish works especially well with the subtle hamon activity and forged texture, giving the knife a look that feels both raw and refined at the same time.

To complete the build, we assembled it on a custom black epoxy handle featuring a ferrule with soft white shimmer, flowing into gold flake swirls and finished with a translucent epoxy tip. The handle keeps the overall look dark and cohesive, while the lighter shimmer and gold detailing add contrast and movement without overpowering the blade. It feels modern, elegant, and completely unique.

The end result is a knife that stands apart not only from production pieces, but even from the rest of the collection itself. This is not simply one blade among many — it is a singular custom expression of the collaboration, combining Québec-forged 26C3 performance, Japanese-inspired geometry, a deeply etched dark finish, and a custom handle assembly that will not be repeated.

A true 1 of 1, assembled in-house at Kakushin.
