Interested in learning the basics about free-handed whetstone knife sharpening? Look no further. Our beginners 3 hour in-person workshop will cover the following topics:
- Steel types
- Stone varieties
- Hand positioning
- Pressure technique
- Stone progression
Once we've covered the essential theory, it's time to roll up your sleeves and put knowledge into practice.
We also encourage you to bring your own knife so that you can leave the workshop with a perfectly sharpened tool. As part of your workspace, we will include a water basket with an adjustable stone rack/base that will fit your stones, a table and a folding chair.
You will be responsible to bring at least one sharpening stone (#600 to #1000 grit), a optional polishing stone (#3000 to #8000 grit) and optional strop (leather).
If you are not equipped and you want to secure a starter-kit before class, here is what we have available to you: Click here
